Bracken Pumpkin Patch
Welcome to the Bracken Pumpkin Patch starting October 10th we will be open to the public! We have served Bracken, Cibolo, Schertz, San Antonio, and surrounding areas with the best pumpkin patch for over 20 years!
From hayrides to floating pumpkins, every chapter of our Pumpkin Patch tells a story of community, creativity, and God’s faithful harvest—still growing strong today.
The Great Pumpkin Patch Adventure
In 2002, youth director Mica Akridge launched what would become one of our most loved fall traditions: the Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkins were purchased from Pumpkins USA, grown on a Navajo reservation in Farmington, New Mexico, where Native American farmers planted, tended, and harvested them with care.
In 2003, Mica and Jennifer Foran added weekday education centers for school field trips. Children—many from inner-city schools who had never been to the country—enjoyed hayrides that started with a lawn-mower tractor, graduated to a farm tractor, and eventually a UTV. When public-school funding cuts ended the large field trips around 2015, a smaller version continued for homeschoolers and special groups.
The patch’s story includes some memorable twists. In 2004, heavy rains sent pumpkins and pallets floating down FM 2252, teaching everyone where not to stack them.
Over the years, faithful leaders kept the tradition alive: Janeen Kane and Steve Rice followed Mica, then Amanda Hamilton took the helm in 2018, adding new activities for kids and families.
A big supply change came in 2019, when the patch partnered with Pumpkin Pyle, a family business in the Texas Panhandle, ensuring every pumpkin remains homegrown with heart.
Nina Bookout joined as co-director in 2024, while Luanne Schuetze has led volunteer recruiting from the start.
